San Francisco, CA - Part Three

I'm thinking there will be one more San Francisco post after this, and then I'll have to catch up with the back log of Vancouver photos. It's turned cold over in this part of the world, but we still get a few clear, sunny days.

This area of San Francisco was called The Mission / Mission District. Although it's a popular area for the homeless, it's also an amazingly quirky suburb. It was easily my favourite district outside the CBD. The alleys and streets were lined with murals, the cafes were unique and delicious and the stores were just as amazing (lots of thrift stores). I'd go back to SF just to explore Mission a little bit further.

wow, such amazing street art! I have to say I did not see much when I was in Melbourne which was disappointing. And the one laneway I remember photographing in about 2006 because it was amazing, was covered up with boring graffiti.

Ooh lots of colour! This all looks super rad!
I especially love that apartment building in the third last pic. Hope I get to go to the US next year; love to go to California.

Quite a colourful neighbourhood :) Were these all taken with your Tamron? I think I read somewhere on your blog that you also have the Canon 10-22mm lens, do you use it much? Is it good?

Milena - I got the 10-22mm prior to buying the Tamron 17-50mm. I definitely prefer the Tamron, although it’s not as fast focusing, the aperture is wider and it’s so much more versatile. The only time I take it off my body is when I’m in super low light and then the 50mm comes in handy (although it’s annoyingly cropped on my 60d). I’ve been looking into a macro lens (maybe the Canon 60mm Macro) and I’ve contemplated selling my 10-22 because I hardly ever use it. The wide angle is nice, but a lot of the time it can distort your images and the aperture only opens to 3.5 which I find is useless unless it’s middle of the day or I’ve got my tripod and can actually be bothered setting it up haha.

Have you thought about hiring the lenses you’re looking into? You could do this and then test them out for yourself and see how you like them. I find trying them in the store doesn’t really give you an accurate idea of whether they will give you the results you’re looking for.

LENS BUYING IS SO HARD!! Haha, I feel for you ;)

I replied to you on my blog, but just wanted to say: lens hiring is a terrific idea! Unfortunately, it's not a service that is offered around here :/ It would be so great if it were, I'd instantly rent the EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 to try it out. I love almost every aspect of that lens, except the aperture, and I would definitely want to know before I buy it if f/5.6 would be fast enough on the long end for my needs...

But I looked up photos on Flickr like you suggested, and it seems like a very versatile lens... Oh well, it'll be a couple more months until I'll have enough money to buy it, hopefully by that time I'll manage to make up my mind :D

Wow, lovely pictures and artwork. My favourite is the elephant/forest hybrid.
